Jordanian Government Resigns Following Election Results
Jordan’s Prime Minister Bishr al-Khasawneh has announced his resignation following the 20th House of Representatives elections, as reported by Jordanian state television Al Mamlaka. The appointment of a new Prime Minister has not yet been made.
After every parliamentary election in Jordan, the government traditionally tenders its resignation to the King in order to pave the way for the formation of a new government. The Khasawneh government was formed on October 12, 2020.
During the recent elections in Jordan, which took place on September 10, a total of 1,623 candidates from 197 local and general lists vied for 138 seats in the House of Representatives, the lower house of parliament. The parliament in Jordan is comprised of two chambers: the House of Representatives, elected by the people, and the Senate, whose members are appointed by the King.
