Journalist Fatih Altaylı Banned from Traveling Abroad by Court Decision

Renowned Turkish journalist, Fatih Altaylı, has been summoned to testify as a suspect by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. The charges include “praising the crime and the criminal” as well as “publicly inciting and humiliating a segment of the public to hatred and hostility” based on some of his social media posts.
Altaylı arrived at the prosecutor’s office earlier today to give a statement. In a show of support, Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör also accompanied him to the prosecutor’s office.
Following his approximately one-hour statement, Fatih Altaylı was referred to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on Duty with a request for judicial control in the form of a travel ban and a signature requirement. The judgeship ultimately decided to release Altaylı with a ban on leaving the country and a judicial control order in the form of signing.
This news comes as a shock to many who follow Altaylı’s work closely. The renowned journalist has long been known for his outspoken and controversial social media presence and has been a staunch critic of the Turkish government.
As the situation unfolds, many are closely monitoring the developments and preparing to show solidarity with Altaylı as he navigates this latest legal challenge.
