Journalist Fatih Altaylı Summoned for Testimony in Suspect Case
Journalist Fatih Altaylı Summoned to Testify as a Suspect
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has summoned journalist Fatih Altaylı to testify as a suspect on charges of “praising the crime and the criminal” and “publicly inciting and humiliating a segment of the public to hatred and hostility” due to his posts on social media.
The prosecutor’s office is investigating some of Altaylı’s social media posts which are alleged to have violated these laws. Altaylı has been asked to testify on the matter.
This is not the first time a journalist has been targeted in such a way. There has been a recent increase in cases of journalists being questioned or charged for their social media posts and writings.
Altaylı is not the only journalist under investigation. Journalist Can Ataklı is also facing a similar investigation for his social media posts.
It remains to be seen how these cases will develop, and how they will impact freedom of speech and press freedom in Turkey.
