Journalist Murat Ağırel threatened with video, culprits apprehended
The General Directorate of Security announced that the Intelligence Directorate has launched an investigation into a threatening video targeting journalist Murat Ağıreli. The video, which circulated on various social media platforms, depicted a masked individual allegedly linked to an organized crime leader planning an armed attack on the journalist.
The statement revealed that the masked person in the video was identified as O.Ö. and the person recording the video was identified as YK. Following an operation carried out by the Izmir Organized Crime Department, suspects were apprehended in Izmir on September 4. During the operation, authorities seized 3 guns, drugs, mobile phones, and a tripod. It was discovered that O.Ö. had a criminal record involving 12 separate crimes, while YK had a record of 2 separate crimes.
The investigation sheds light on the criminal activities of the individuals involved, highlighting the serious nature of the threats made against journalist Murat Ağıreli. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting freedom of speech and ensuring the safety of journalists in the face of such threats.
