Relatives of Israeli prisoners in Gaza demand ceasefire continuation and government resignation
According to The Times of Israel, relatives of Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip and thousands of people gathered around the Ministry of Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv, demanding the continuation of the ceasefire and captive exchange agreement and the government’s resignation.
Addressing the demonstrators, one protester said, “Netanyahu, we will judge you against the crimes you commit against the people.” They called on the Netanyahu-led government to take action and stated that the demonstration was an “uprising.”
“The fate of the country depends on the life of prisoners,” one protester emphasized, urging all sectors of society to participate in the uprising by closing down businesses and technology companies. A relative of one of the Israeli prisoners expressed frustration, accusing Netanyahu of sabotaging the ceasefire agreement and deliberately delaying negotiations.
Hamas had previously accepted a proposal on March 14 to release some prisoners, but Israel viewed this response as a “psychological war.” Hamas is pushing for further negotiations on a permanent ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, while Israel is demanding the release of more prisoners.
The first stage of the ceasefire and captive exchange agreement ended on March 2, leading to a halt in humanitarian aid and electricity supply to the Gaza Strip. The situation remains tense as both sides navigate the complexities of the agreement and the release of prisoners.
