Justice Minister Confirms Government’s Compliance for EU Fund Arrival

After a successful meeting with the Justice Council in Brussels, Hungary’s Justice Minister Bence Tuzson spoke at a press conference mentioning that Hungary has made good on all the requests put forth by the European Commission related to the reform of the Hungarian judiciary. As a result, Hungary is now waiting to receive the EU funds it is entitled to. Tuzson underlined that there are no outstanding requests to Hungary that have not been fully addressed.
Hungarian Nation reports that Euronews recently wrote, citing EU officials, that the measures requested by Brussels from Hungary were considered sufficient to release EUR 10.4 billion from the previously blocked cohesion fund. The Justice Minister made it clear that only technical changes remained to be made, and these adjustments will be forwarded to the relevant EU bodies in the coming days.
Additionally, Tuzson highlighted at the press conference that Hungary’s sovereignty was contingent on Europe’s competitiveness. He pointed out that both the United States and China are outpacing Europe in terms of competitiveness, which has raised concerns about European decision-makers. He also mentioned the technical issue regarding data protection, particularly the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and its impact on small and medium-sized enterprises. He urged the European Commission to adopt a competitive perspective when looking at these issues.
Furthermore, the minister stressed that where investigative powers should be situated and who should be ordering them is a sovereignty issue for Hungary. He emphasized the need to consider this matter constitutionally, as it is crucial for Hungary to retain its sovereignty.
In conclusion, Minister Tuzson addressed various pressing issues, including the connection between migration and terrorism and factors related to sovereignty and competitiveness within the European Union.
