Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunç: ‘CHP Bus Driver Claims Are Lies and Slander’

Controversy Surrounds CHP Driver Incident as Justice Minister Responds
Ankara, Turkey – In a recent statement shared via social media, Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunç addressed claims circulating in certain press outlets and online platforms regarding an incident involving a bus driver for the Republican People’s Party (CHP). The claims suggested that the driver was requested to arrest deputies at the 1st Assembly on April 23.
The situation escalated following an investigation initiated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. This inquiry was sparked by reports that the CHP bus failed to stop in compliance with police orders, allegedly driving the vehicle towards law enforcement officers.
Minister Tunç emphasized that using a political party’s vehicle does not exempt individuals from adhering to laws, asserting, “No one has the right to endanger public safety by ignoring police stop signals.” He condemned any actions that might jeopardize the lives of police officers, stressing the importance of maintaining peace and security within the nation.
The Justice Minister also criticized the narrative promoted by some CHP officials, accusing them of spreading disinformation that fuels chaos rather than supporting lawful conduct, particularly on May 1, observed as Labor and Solidarity Day in Turkey. He argued that the real intent of those disseminating lies is not genuine solidarity but rather provocation.
Tunç concluded his statement by conveying his best wishes to the police officers involved in this incident, reinforcing the need for respect and cooperation between law enforcement and the public.
This case has added to the ongoing tensions in Turkish politics, highlighting the delicate balance between political expression and public safety. As investigations continue, it remains to be seen how this situation will evolve and impact the relationship between political parties and law enforcement in Turkey.
