Justice Served: Murderers of Cashier Merve Sentenced
The tragic incident that occurred on August 20, 2023, in the Kayıhan District of Pamukkale district has left a deep scar in the community. The dispute between Hasan S. (25) and his relative Yusuf S. (26) over a girl led to a violent confrontation in the park. Hasan S., armed with a knife, injured Yusuf S. in the hand before fleeing to a nearby market for shelter.
In a shocking turn of events, Yusuf S. retaliated by using a shotgun brought by his girlfriend Buse Simay K. Yusuf S. shot repeatedly, hitting Merve Acar (25) who was innocently working in his brother-in-law’s market to save for dowry money. Hasan S. was also injured in the incident. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, Merve Acar tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The Denizli Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has filed an indictment regarding the murder of Merve Acar. The indictment seeks aggravated life imprisonment and life imprisonment for Yusuf S. for charges of ‘intentional murder against a woman’, ‘intentional murder’, and ‘intentional attempt to murder’. Other suspects involved in the case have also received severe sentences for their involvement in the incident.
During the trial, all defendants were convicted and sentenced for their roles in the violent altercation. The court panel noted that the defendants’ expressions of regret were insufficient, and they did not show any remorse from the beginning of the incident. The hearing concluded with the notification of suspended sentences for previous crimes committed by the defendants.
