Justice served: Narin’s murderers punished, shocking verdict for Nevzat Bahtiyar

The verdict has been announced in the murder case of Narin Güran, whose body was found 19 days after she went missing in Diyarbakır. The court board found the defendants, mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran guilty of “intentional murder against the child in the event of participation” and sentenced them to 12 months in prison under various articles of the Turkish Penal Code. They were also sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment separately. Additionally, Nevzat Bahtiyar was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for tampering with evidence.
The court panel decided to continue the detention of the defendants and did not apply a reduction for good behavior in their sentences. Former President of Diyarbakır Bar Association, Nahit Eren, stated that the decision was partially met our request and described it as a partially dissenting decision. He mentioned that they will appeal the decision made by the court.
Minister of Family and Social Services, Göktaş, expressed his gratitude to the lawyers who worked tirelessly to ensure justice for Narin. He also mentioned that while no decision can bring back Narin, the punishment given to the defendants was heart-wrenching.
The lifeless body of Narin Güran was found in İleritutmaz Creek on September 8, after she went missing on August 21. Following an extensive investigation, 23 suspects were detained, and 12 individuals, including family members and a neighbor, were arrested. The trial of the defendants began on November 7 and concluded with the recent verdict.
The decision in the case has sparked reactions from the public, with many awaiting the outcome of the appeal process. The pursuit of justice for Narin continues as the legal proceedings move forward.
