Justice Sought for Murder of Şeyda Police Officer: Court Orders Treatment for Defendant
Yunus Emre Geçti, a 19-year-old man with a history of 26 criminal records, was arrested after he escaped from the police and killed a police officer. His mother had filed a complaint earlier, stating that Geçti had beaten and insulted her due to substance addiction and lack of anger control. Following the complaint, an injunction was issued for Geçti to undergo treatment.
During the judicial interrogation, Geçti revealed that he had a history of drug use and had been involved in a theft case before the incident. He explained that he saw a gun on the ground while being attacked and fired shots towards it, not realizing the individuals were police officers.
After the incident, Geçti’s cousin, who shared photos with weapons on social media, was also arrested by the Istanbul Police Department. The cousin was identified as KG, a 15-year-old who was detained for his involvement in the case.
The tragic events surrounding Yunus Emre Geçti and the ensuing investigation shed light on the dangers of substance addiction and the importance of addressing mental health issues. The arrest of both Geçti and his cousin highlights the need for stricter measures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
