Juventus Defender Leonardo Bonucci Set to Retire After Next Season
Italian football player Leonardo Bonucci has announced his retirement from football at the age of 36, as he shared in a video on Juventus’ YouTube account. Bonucci expressed his gratitude for being able to wear the Juventus jersey for 12 years, calling it a dream come true for him. He also mentioned that when he ends his career next season, it will mark the end of the era of those who play Italian style defense. Bonucci has played for important Italian teams such as Inter, Milan, Genoa, Bari, and Juventus, where he played in two terms. He celebrated winning the Serie A nine times, eight of which with Juventus and one with Inter. Bonucci wore the black and white jersey for the 500th time in the Sevilla match last week. He was part of the Italian team that conquered the 2020 European Championship, and he played in 120 matches throughout his career. Bonucci expressed his pride in being named among the best defenders in the history of Italian football, such as Franco Baresi, Alessandro Nesta, Paolo Maldini, and Fabio Cannavaro.
