Karagandy Region Plans 65 Wind Turbines for 500 MW Capacity

ASTANA – The Karagandy Region administration is making strides in renewable energy with the signing of a memorandum to construct 65 wind turbines in the Osakarov district. These turbines will have a combined capacity of 500 megawatts, marking a significant investment in alternative energy sources in the region.

This new wind farm project, located in Saryozek, is the second in the district to receive foreign investment. The area’s consistent strong winds make it an ideal location for wind energy production. China Energy Overseas Investment, a leading wind turbine manufacturer, has already begun conducting preliminary analyses and feasibility studies for the project.

In addition to this large-scale project, a separate 150 MW wind power project is also underway in the district. With six turbines already completed and 21 more in progress, the region is quickly becoming a hub for renewable energy development.

Ruslan Nurmukhanbetov, the district’s akim (mayor), has expressed optimism about the future of green energy projects in the area. Negotiations are already underway for a third project with a 500 MW capacity, further solidifying the district’s commitment to sustainable energy practices.

“We are actively working to attract investors to the district,” Nurmukhanbetov stated. “These projects will not only strengthen our position in green energy but also bring in additional tax revenues and create new job opportunities for our residents.”

The construction of these wind turbines represents a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions and transitioning towards a more sustainable energy future in the Karagandy Region.
