Karagandy Zoo Adds African Animals to its Collection
Karagandy Zoo Welcomes Zebras and Crowned Cranes from Africa
The Karagandy Zoo in Kazakhstan welcomed a new addition to its animal family on July 31 as they received a small herd of zebras and a pair of crowned cranes from Africa.
The zebras, consisting of a male and four females, were quarantined for several weeks to ensure they got used to their new living conditions. The animals came all the way from Boksburg, South Africa and are said to be eating well and adapting to their new home.
“We want the zebras to become permanent residents of our area and give birth to foals in the future,” said Gulnara Adambekova, the Director of the Karagandy Zoo.
In addition to the zebras, the zoo also acquired crowned cranes from the Republic of Benin in West Africa. These birds are known for their beauty, heat-loving nature, and herbivorous diet. The zoo has created the necessary conditions to ensure the well-being of the crowned cranes.
Looking ahead, the zoo has plans to acquire more exotic animals including De Brazza’s monkeys, white wallabies, green monkeys, and saimiris.
With the arrival of these new species, the Karagandy Zoo continues to expand its collection and provide a diverse and enriching experience for visitors.
