Karatepe Aslantaş Open Air Museum Achieves Recognition on UNESCO World Memory Register
Osmaniye, Turkey — Governor Erdinç Yilmaz has expressed satisfaction with the collaborative efforts that have led to the recent achievement of the Karatepe Aslantaş Open Air Museum being included on the UNESCO World Memory International Register. Speaking to journalists, Governor Yilmaz emphasized the significance of this recognition, highlighting the museum’s role in preserving cultural heritage.
The Karatepe Aslantaş Open Air Museum is noteworthy for its inscriptions featuring both Anatolian Hieroglyphs and Phoenician languages. This important site, which is currently on the UNESCO temporary list for World Heritage, has been acknowledged for its inscriptions through partnerships between the Provincial Culture and Tourism Directorate, Osmaniye Korkut Ata University, and the Global Strategic Research Association.
Governor Yilmaz stated, "Our Osmaniye is a place that has a large number of historical works, and the Aslantaş Open Air Museum stands out as one of the most significant examples." He underscored the importance of these inscriptions in protecting cultural heritage, expressing hope that visitors will appreciate the site’s value.
In a written statement, Mustafa Cakar, President of the Global Strategic Research Association, noted that the inclusion of the Karatepe Aslantaş inscriptions in the UNESCO World Memory International Register would not only enhance tourism in Osmaniye and Turkey but also contribute to global cultural understanding.
