Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko Receives Prestigious Mayor Pawel Adamowicz Award
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has been honored with the Mayor Pawel Adamowicz Award of the European Committee of Regions, as announced by Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony on Friday. The award, named after the late mayor of Gdansk who was tragically murdered in 2019, is presented to politicians in local politics who champion freedom, solidarity, and equality.
Karácsony took to Facebook to announce the prestigious accolade, highlighting the significance of the award in recognizing leaders who uphold fundamental values in their communities. The award was handed over by Kata Tüttő, the newly elected president of the European Committee of Regions.
In his statement, Karácsony emphasized the importance of standing in solidarity with Ukraine, praising the country for its three-year fight for freedom and democracy. He noted that Ukraine’s efforts to defend these ideals have not only benefited its own citizens but have also contributed to upholding European values as a whole.
Karácsony stressed that supporting Ukraine is not merely a strategic decision but a moral imperative, stating that Ukraine has done more for Europe than Europe has done for Ukraine. The award ceremony was a testament to the recognition of Klitschko’s dedication to these shared values.
As the international community continues to stand by Ukraine in its struggle, the Mayor Pawel Adamowicz Award serves as a reminder of the importance of solidarity and unity in promoting democracy and freedom across Europe. Congratulations to Mayor Vitali Klitschko on this well-deserved honor.
