Kazakh and Turkmen Leaders Tour Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty (People’s Council) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov recently visited the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum in Turkistan. The visit, which took place on April 21, included an informal meeting and tours of various sites in the city.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss the prospects for strengthening the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, as well as to address current regional issues. During their time in Turkistan, President Tokayev and Chairman Berdimuhamedov explored the ethno-village complex within the Azret-Sultan nature reserve and visited the oriental bazaar showcasing different grain crops.
They also had the opportunity to sample national dishes and observe the work of local artisans specializing in traditional crafts such as woodworking, weaving, felting, pottery, and jewelry making. Additionally, the leaders enjoyed a theatrical performance illustrating Kazakh customs and rituals, as well as demonstrations featuring Tazy dogs and hunting birds.
A highlight of the visit was the tour of the Turkistan Visit Center, where they were briefed on development projects for the ancient settlement of Kultobe. They reviewed the progress of museumification efforts at the archaeological site, which covers 27 hectares. The upcoming artisan center concept was also presented, which will include artisan workshops, national gastronomic venues, an oriental bazaar, and hotels.
It is worth noting that on March 25, Turkistan was honored with the World Craft City status by the World Craft Council. This recognition highlights the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship present in the city. The visit of President Tokayev and Chairman Berdimuhamedov signifies the importance of cultural exchange and collaboration between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
