Kazakh Athletes Dominate Asian Championship in Traditional Equestrian Sport
Athletes from Kazakhstan have emerged victorious at the Asian championship on tenge ilu, a traditional Kazakh equestrian sport that involves picking up coins while riding a horse. The Almaty Region’s administration reported the success of Kazakh athletes on June 11.
The main continental competition was held at the Kobylandy hippodrome in the Talgar district. This event was organized in preparation for the upcoming fifth World Nomad Games, set to kick off in Astana on Sept. 8.
Galymzhan Izzhanov, Rakhat Kambarov, and Bakhyt Toltai from Kazakhstan secured first place in all three styles of tenge ilu, surpassing athletes over 18 years of age from ten countries, including Afghanistan, China, Hungary, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
Kambarov, a member of Kazakhstan’s national team, was also acknowledged as the best in the overall standings of the competition.
