Kazakh Business Leaders Join Forces with Government to Address Flood Aftermath

Major businesses in Kazakhstan have stepped up to assist the state in dealing with the aftermath of devastating floods in the Kostanai Region. During a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev on April 30, leaders of companies such as Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), Allur Group, and RG Brands pledged significant financial support for reconstruction efforts.

ERG, a large mining and raw materials supplier, has allocated a total of 40 billion tenge ($90.7 million) to help eliminate the consequences of the disaster and support affected residents. These funds will be used to reconstruct road and engineering infrastructure, as well as schools in the region. Allur Group of Companies, specializing in car manufacturing and distribution, has committed 3 billion tenge ($6.8 million) to build houses and apartments for those in need.

RG Brands, a leading beverage company, will also contribute 1.46 billion tenge ($3.3 million) towards housing construction and renovation in the affected region. Additionally, the government has allocated 405 million tenge ($919,088) from the reserve to purchase homes for flood victims in Arkalyk town.

As the cleanup and recovery efforts continue, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has reported that the flood situation in the West Kazakhstan Region is stabilizing, with water levels in the Zhaiyk River gradually decreasing. In the North Kazakhstan Region, the situation is under control, and no new flooding is anticipated. However, heavy rainfall has led to increased water levels in the Bukhtarma and Kishi Ulba Rivers in the East Kazakhstan Region, prompting emergency response teams to be dispatched to assist.

Despite the challenges posed by the floods, the solidarity and generosity of the Kazakh people have shone through. The Qazaqstan Halqyna Fund has collected 4.77 billion tenge ($10.8 million) in donations since April 1, with contributions coming from various sectors of society including businesses, banks, and individuals. The outpouring of support serves as a beacon of hope for those affected by the natural disaster, as efforts to rebuild and recover gather momentum.
