Kazakh Chess Players Shine at Asian Youth Championship
Kazakh chess players have once again demonstrated their excellence on the international stage, winning a total of 25 medals at the 26th Asian Youth Championship held in Almaty from June 10 to 20. The impressive haul included 12 gold, eight silver, and five bronze medals.
According to the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, the championship saw the participation of nearly 650 players from 33 countries, all aged between 7 and 18 years. This marked a record-breaking number of participants for an international chess tournament hosted by Kazakhstan. The young chess players competed in all time controls – classic, rapid, and blitz.
Timur Turlov, President of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, expressed pride in the success of the event, stating that it holds significant image value for Kazakhstan and serves as a testament to the professionalism of the federation. He personally congratulated the winners at the closing ceremony, highlighting the positive feedback received from participants representing various nations.
In a special recognition of achievement, Turlov presented Kazybek Nogerbek, the newly crowned world chess champion under 20 years, with the keys to an electric car. This victory not only celebrated Nogerbek’s individual success but also marked a historic moment in the development of Kazakh chess.
The championship was conducted under the theme of environmental friendliness and sustainable development. To promote eco-conscious practices, all plastic used at the tournament was recycled, with participants even riding a special bicycle shredder to contribute to this initiative. Additionally, the winners’ cups were crafted from recycled plastic, further emphasizing the commitment to environmental responsibility.
The success of Kazakh chess players at the Asian Youth Championship not only underscores their talent and dedication but also reinforces Kazakhstan’s growing presence in the global chess community.
