Kazakh Young Chess Players Shine at FIDE World Youth Rapid & Blitz Championship
Astana – The Kazakh young chess players showcased their talent and skill at the FIDE World Youth Rapid & Blitz Championship 2024, held from Dec. 14-16 in Terme Čatež, Slovenia. The team brought home a total of 10 medals, including two gold medals, in an impressive display of strategic thinking and precision.
Yelnaz Kaliakhmet and Daniyal Sapenov emerged as the champions in their respective categories, earning well-deserved recognition for their outstanding performance. The Committee on Sports and Physical Culture of the Kazakh Ministry of Tourism and Sports confirmed their victory and expressed pride in the young players’ achievements.
President of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, Timur Turlov, congratulated the winners, coaches, and parents on their remarkable success. He commended the record number of medals won by the Kazakh team, particularly highlighting the significant contributions of the young players to the country’s growing legacy in the sport. Turlov emphasized that this accomplishment marks just the beginning of a promising journey for the budding chess stars.
The tournament drew participation from over 320 young chess players aged between 14 and 18, representing 36 countries. The event provided a platform for emerging talents to showcase their skills, engage in competitive gameplay, and foster international camaraderie among young chess enthusiasts.
The Kazakh team’s stellar performance at the FIDE World Youth Rapid & Blitz Championship reflects the country’s commitment to nurturing chess talent and promoting the sport at the global level.
