Kazakhstan’s Kabir Khan Wins Twice in Dubai, Qualifies for Dubai World Cup
Kazakhstan’s horse Kabir Khan had a dream start in its international horseracing career, winning twice at the Al Maktoum Challenge tournament in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Jan. 12 and Jan. 26. These victories have earned Kabir Khan a spot at the Dubai World Cup, one of the biggest events in horse racing.
Kabir Khan became the highlight of the Meydan Racecourse with its unexpected and impressive victories. Despite being a newcomer to the scene, its achievement marked a significant milestone as the first Kazakh horse to earn a spot at the prestigious Dubai World Cup.
Owner Tlek Mukanbetkaliyev expressed his excitement, raising the Kazakh flag along with friends to celebrate the accomplishment. He stated that horse breeders from all over Kazakhstan called to congratulate him after Kabir Khan’s wins.
Kabir Khan is a descendant of the famous California Chrom and has a strong racing lineage. The horse’s father-stallion is a Dubai 2016 champion and a multiple Kentucky Derby winner with a $14 million racing career.
Kabir Khan made its debut at the Almaty hippodrome in Kazakhstan in 2022, participating in three races. After winning all three races, Kabir Khan unexpectedly came up for sale, and Mukanbetkaliyev couldn’t resist the opportunity to acquire the talented horse.
Mukanbetkaliyev explained that growing a winning horse is not a one-person job but involves many great people, including a good horse, trainer, and jockey, as well as having a dream and asking for God’s blessing.
In addition to Kabir Khan, Mukanbetkaliyev has five valuable young bloodstock waiting to enter races, including Kabir Khan’s younger brother.
Mukanbetkaliyev’s passion for horse ownership and breeding started in his childhood, and he noted that Kabir Khan is a fortune for him.
Kabir Khan will now take its chances in the Dubai World Cup, one of the most anticipated events on the horse racing calendar. The race, which begins on March 30, will attract leading owners, trainers, and the best racehorses from around the world for a top prize of $12 million.
Maxim Senatorov, editor-in-chief and commentator on Konny Mir (Horse World) TV channel, praised Kabir Khan’s achievements, stating that the horse’s qualification for the Dubai World Cup on its first attempt is a great achievement.
