Kazakh Athletes Carry State Flag at 2024 Summer Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony in Paris
Kazakh athletes Berik Izmaganbetov and Sevda Aliyeva had the honor of carrying the state flag of Kazakhstan during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games in Paris. The ceremony took place on Aug. 28 at the Place de la Concorde, marking the beginning of the prestigious event.
This year, Paris is hosting the Paralympic Games for the first time, adding a special significance to the occasion. The city has previously hosted the Olympic Games three times, further solidifying its reputation as a hub for international sporting events.
The 2024 Paralympic Games will see over 4,400 athletes from around the world competing in 22 sports and 549 disciplines. A total of 2,500 people will accompany the athletes throughout the event, which will last for 11 days. While no new sports have been added to the program this year, badminton, which made its debut at the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo, will be included once again.
Kazakhstan is making a strong showing at the Paralympic Games with a record delegation of 44 athletes. This is a significant increase from the 26 athletes who represented the country at the 2020 Paralympics. The Kazakh delegation will compete in nine sports, including para table tennis and women’s para canoe, which are making their debut entries in the games.
With such a strong representation, Kazakh athletes are poised to make their mark at the 2024 Paralympic Games and showcase their talent on the world stage.
