Kazakhstan Strengthens Laws Against Human Trafficking and Property Damage
ASTANA – Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has taken a significant step towards combating human trafficking, vandalism, and property damage by signing a new law on July 5. This law, aimed at increasing penalties for such offenses, reflects the government’s commitment to promoting safety and preserving public property.
State Counselor Erlan Karin highlighted that the law was a result of initiatives proposed during the National Kurultai in March in Atyrau. This legislative action follows previous laws implemented in Kazakhstan, including one prohibiting vape sales and distribution, and another amending penalties for violence against women and children.
In a statement on his Telegram channel on July 6, Karin referenced the President’s speech in Atyrau, where he emphasized the importance of addressing negative behaviors and promoting a culture of respect. Vandalism, in particular, was singled out as a destructive behavior that needed to be tackled.
The new law increases liability for various offenses, including pollution of public places, intentional destruction or damage to property, and harm to historical and cultural monuments. Additionally, stricter penalties will be imposed for actions that result in damage to objects of special historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural significance.
By tightening regulations and imposing harsher penalties, Kazakhstan aims to create a safer and more respectful environment for its citizens. This legislative move underscores the government’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and protecting the country’s cultural heritage.
