Kazakh Prime Minister Emphasizes Importance of Water-Saving Technologies and Infrastructure Projects in Kyzylorda Region
During his recent visit to the Kyzylorda region, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov highlighted the crucial advancements in water-saving technologies and infrastructure development efforts aimed at preserving and expanding the Small Aral Sea. The visit took place on June 27, where Bektenov assessed the progress of various projects in the region.
One of the key focuses of the visit was the assessment of advancements in water-saving technologies, particularly in the context of the Syrdarya River. The average annual volume of collected water from the river has decreased due to low water content, posing challenges for the region’s socio-economic development and environmental sustainability. However, measures to increase water inflow have shown positive results, with the Northern Aral Sea seeing an increase in water volume.
In addition, Bektenov also inspected the progress of the Karazek reservoir construction project, which will have a capacity of 775 million cubic meters. This reservoir aims to preserve water that would otherwise be discharged into the Great Aral Sea, thereby enabling irrigation of cultivated lands in the Kazalinsky district and hayfields along the riverbed. The Prime Minister also reviewed the reconstruction of the Kokaral dam, emphasizing the government’s commitment to effective water resource management and collaboration with neighboring countries.
Furthermore, the adoption of innovative technologies in the Kyzylorda Region has led to significant improvements in water conservation and agricultural productivity. Laser planning has helped reduce water consumption for rice field irrigation, resulting in water savings of up to 20% and increased productivity by up to 30% over the past decade.
Overall, Bektenov’s visit underscored the government’s dedication to promoting sustainable water management practices and enhancing the region’s resilience to water scarcity. By prioritizing water-saving technologies and investing in critical infrastructure projects, Kazakhstan aims to safeguard the Small Aral Sea and ensure the sustainable development of the Kyzylorda region.
