Kazakh Senate Approves Turkistan’s Special Status Law
The Senate of Kazakhstan has approved a law granting special status to Turkistan city, marking a significant step in the development of the spiritual, cultural, historical, and tourist center. The decision, made during a meeting chaired by Senate Chairman Maulen Ashimbayev, aims to establish legal conditions that will protect the city’s historical and cultural heritage while preserving the uniqueness of its spiritual sites.
Prior to the approval of this law, Turkistan’s development was already a key priority. Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports, Yerzhan Yerkinbayev, highlighted the lack of international and domestic flights as a challenge for tourism growth in the city. Despite this obstacle, the number of tourists from abroad doubled in 2024 compared to the previous year, indicating a growing interest in Turkistan as a tourist destination. Plans are also underway to introduce 16 new aircraft to enhance the country’s fleet and improve connectivity to the region.
With the new special status granted to Turkistan city, there is optimism for further development and promotion of its cultural and historical significance. The government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and promoting tourism in the region signals a promising future for Turkistan as a key destination in Kazakhstan.
