Kazakhstan Aims to Lead in Digital Silk Road Development
ASTANA — Kazakhstan is positioning itself to become a key player in the new Silk Road in the digital world, as revealed during a recent meeting of the Council on Improving Investment Climate on June 19. The meeting was chaired by Kazakh First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar.
The Prime Minister’s press service stated that a pivotal initiative in this endeavor will be the implementation of the Digital Code, which will outline the foundational principles for the country’s digital transformation. This code will introduce innovative regulatory frameworks for digital technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), with the goal of creating a secure and convenient digital environment for both citizens and businesses.
Sklyar emphasized that Kazakhstan has made significant strides in digital transformation in recent years. The government is actively working to facilitate the development of digital technologies and AI, with more than 92% of government services now available online, and 86% accessible through smartphones.
The integration of AI into various sectors is progressing steadily. The Sergek system, based on AI, is being utilized for public and traffic safety purposes, while the Cerebra automated stroke diagnostics platform and Forus Data systems are enhancing the operations of medical institutions.
Furthermore, Kazakhstan is collaborating with prominent tech companies like NVIDIA, Coursera, Amazon, Microsoft, and Google to provide training programs in AI and machine learning that offer free certification.
Distinguished participants at the meeting included representatives from companies Dentons, Microsoft, and Google, as well as the Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Kazakhstan Doris Bradbury, British Ambassador to Kazakhstan Kathy Leach, Ambassador of Italy to Kazakhstan Marco Alberti, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Director for Kazakhstan Hüseyin Özhan, and World Bank Country Manager for Kazakhstan Andrei Mikhnev, who shared their insights and perspectives on the country’s digital initiatives.
