Kazakhstan Advances Artificial Intelligence Capacity by Attracting New Talent
Kazakhstan is making significant strides in developing its artificial intelligence (AI) capacity, with a focus on attracting new talent to the field. As part of this initiative, Kazakhstan aims to bring in up to 10,000 AI specialists annually through the establishment of the Alem.ai international AI center, as reported by Kazinform.
The cornerstone of this strategy is the creation of the Alem.ai center, one of the largest AI projects in Kazakhstan. The center will house an educational center for school children and a startup campus, with the goal of boosting exports of AI solutions to $5 billion by 2029.
Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry Zhaslan Madiyev emphasized the significance of Alem.ai in driving the growth of Kazakhstan’s AI exports and positioning Astana as a key intellectual hub in Central Asia.
To support the development of AI talent, the ministry is launching a comprehensive program to train one million individuals in AI skills, with plans to train 60,000 people in Central Asia in 2025. Additionally, the government will introduce certification programs for public sector employees under the AI Kyzmet program and enhance AI competencies in the corporate sector through the AI Corporate initiative.
Collaboration between the ministry’s AI committee and leading universities in Kazakhstan is underway, with institutions like Satbayev University, KBTU, and Astana IT University gearing up to implement cutting-edge technologies in robotics and AI. The launch of the Agibot R&D Center under the umbrella of Alem.ai is a crucial component of this collaboration.
Furthermore, initiatives such as the KazLLM module for Kazakh language processing and the AI’preneuers acceleration program at Astana Hub provide additional avenues for specialists to engage in AI development and entrepreneurship. Startups like Agritech Hub, Egistic, Parqour, and Cerebra AI are leveraging AI in agriculture, transport, medicine, and other sectors to drive innovation and efficiency.
In parallel, discussions around the enactment of an AI law are ongoing to establish legal frameworks for the safe use of AI, regulate copyrights, and combat deepfake content. The proposed bill, which has received input from 13 state bodies, is now under consideration by the Mazhilis, the lower house of the Parliament.
With these concerted efforts and initiatives, Kazakhstan is positioning itself as a regional leader in AI development and innovation, signaling a promising future for the country’s technological landscape.
