Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan Strengthen Ties with Fiber-Optic Communication Line Agreement

During an official visit of Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov to Azerbaijan on March 3, an agreement was signed between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan to design and construct an underwater fiber-optic communication line. This project is aimed at significantly enhancing communication quality and data transmission between Asia and Europe.

The Prime Minister’s press service reported that Bektenov met with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Ali Asadov during his visit, further strengthening the strong relationship between the two countries. Discussions between the officials included trade and economic relations, transport and logistics collaboration, and the development of cultural and humanitarian ties.

In 2024, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan reached $533 million. Kazakhstan has expressed readiness to increase exports of 130 non-commodity goods worth over $340 million to Azerbaijan. Transportation cooperation was emphasized with a 62% increase in cargo volume along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), reaching 4.5 million tons. The integration of the Digital Trade Corridor platform between the railways of both countries was also highlighted.

Cultural and humanitarian collaboration was another focal point of the discussions, with Azerbaijan acknowledging Kazakhstan’s efforts to restore Karabakh. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to boosting bilateral trade and cooperation in various areas. This agreement on a fiber-optic communication line marks another step in the strong and growing partnership between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
