Kazakhstan and EU Join Forces on Trade, Digitalization, and Visa Facilitation

Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu recently met with the European Union Ambassador to Kazakhstan Aleška Simkić to discuss strengthening the strategic partnership between the two entities.

During the meeting, which took place on Jan. 27, the officials focused on enhancing cooperation and advancing preparations for EU visa regime negotiations, according to the Foreign Ministry’s press service.

Nurtleu emphasized Kazakhstan’s determination to deepen its strategic partnership with the European Union, highlighting the importance of effectively implementing agreements reached in priority areas such as trade and investment, transport and logistics, critical raw materials, and digitalization.

Simkić welcomed the high dynamics of interaction between the two parties and expressed her readiness to make every effort to further develop bilateral relations.

The European Union is a key trade and investment partner for Kazakhstan, with the trade turnover between the two reaching $44.2 billion in the period of January to November last year, a 17.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Since 2005, European investments in the Kazakh economy have totaled $180 billion.

The meeting between Nurtleu and Simkić signals a commitment from both sides to strengthen their ties and work towards mutual cooperation and development in various key areas.
