Kazakhstan and France Delay Water Summit to December in Riyadh

The One Water Summit is set to take place in December in Riyadh, in conjunction with the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP 16). French President Emmanuel Macron made this announcement on September 25 during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Co-organized by France, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, and the World Bank, the summit aims to bring attention to the importance of water resources at the highest level. Macron stressed the urgency of making progress on this crucial issue.

The decision to hold the One Water Summit was first revealed by Macron and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai last year. Originally planned to coincide with the UN General Assembly, the summit has now found its place alongside the UNCCD COP 16 in Riyadh.

This initiative highlights the global collaboration and commitment to addressing water-related challenges and ensuring sustainable access to this vital resource for all.
