Kazakhstan and Georgia Strengthen Cooperation on Trans-Caspian Transportation Route

Astana — Kazakhstan and Georgia have agreed to further enhance their cooperation in developing the Trans-Caspian International Transportation Route (TITR). This decision was reached during a meeting between Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Georgian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili on September 19 in Astana.

Both countries’ territories play a crucial role as key transcontinental transportation corridors, offering the shortest routes from Europe to China and Southeast Asia. Bektenov highlighted the positive outcomes of the collaboration between Kazakhstan and Georgia, which has led to a significant increase in cargo transshipment along the route.

“Cargo transshipment along this route saw a 65% increase last year and a 69% surge in the first eight months of this year, reaching 2.9 million tons,” stated Bektenov. “Our goal is to boost the transportation volume along this route to 10 million tons of cargo. To achieve this, the government is implementing consistent measures to enhance transit conditions.”

Bektenov also stressed the importance of joint efforts to establish competitive tariff conditions, reduce delivery time, and increase the volume of transportation along the TITR, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars line. He mentioned that digitalization of the transport corridor is essential to make it more attractive for international carriers.

Davitashvili underlined the significance of the Intergovernmental Commission between the two countries, which aims to provide new momentum for the development of bilateral relations. He traveled to Astana to participate in the 12th meeting of the Kazakhstan-Georgia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

The discussions between Kazakhstan and Georgia demonstrate their commitment to strengthening their partnership and further enhancing the efficiency of the Trans-Caspian International Transportation Route. Their collaboration is set to bring about positive developments in the region’s transportation and logistics sector.
