Kazakhstan and Turkey sign $2 billion agriculture investment deals

Kazakhstan and Türkiye strengthen agricultural ties with $2 billion investment agreement

ASTANA – Kazakh Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov signed documents worth $2 billion during a working visit to Türkiye on Aug. 12. The agreement focuses on investment in the agro-industrial complex and trade in agricultural products with Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, reported the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry’s press service.

Saparov emphasized the stable development of Kazakh-Turkish agricultural relations, highlighting a 13% increase in the trade turnover of agricultural products in 2023. Kazakhstan has been a traditional supplier of crop products to Türkiye, and with the recent lifting of restrictions on livestock products in June, domestic agricultural producers are now prepared to export meat products. As part of the delegation, Kazakh companies involved in livestock raising, fattening, and meat processing plants were present during the visit.

The Kazakh Minister expressed gratitude to Yumaklı for his efforts in lifting the restrictions and urged the Turkish veterinary service to expedite the inspection process for Kazakh enterprises. He also stressed the importance of boosting exports of grain and oilseed crops to Türkiye, especially given the anticipated good harvest.

Apart from trade agreements, the visit resulted in the signing of three cooperation documents in agricultural science between Kazakhstan’s National Agrarian Scientific and Educational Center and various Turkish entities, including the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies, Sivas University of Science and Technology, and the Turkish Beekeepers Association.

Kazakhstan has successfully completed six investment projects with Turkish investors and plans to execute ten more projects totaling $553 million. These projects include the establishment of greenhouse complexes, wheat and bean processing plants, vegetable storage facilities, and other ventures aimed at further enhancing agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
