
Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan Enhance Strategic Alliance

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan and Chairman Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan recently met in Turkistan to discuss the strengthening of their strategic partnership. The two leaders focused on various aspects of collaboration, including projects in the gas industry and transport and logistics sectors.
President Tokayev expressed his gratitude to Berdimuhamedov for visiting Turkistan, a city of spiritual significance for all Turkic peoples. He also acknowledged the successful development of cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing the importance of upcoming strategic projects.
Berdimuhamedov, in turn, thanked Kazakhstan for its hospitality and support for Turkmenistan’s UN initiative to launch the International Year of Peace and Trust. Both leaders emphasized the need to identify new growth opportunities and increase trade turnover to $1 billion in the near future.
The discussions also highlighted cooperation in the gas sector, particularly Kazakhstan’s potential involvement in the Galkynysh field development project alongside foreign stakeholders. President Tokayev underscored the significance of regional transport projects, such as the Turgundi–Herat–Kandahar–Spin-Boldak railway, which would diversify transport routes and create new export markets.
Additionally, the leaders discussed cooperation in education and digitization, with Kazakhstan offering support to Turkmenistan in digitizing public services and training IT specialists. Overall, the meeting between President Tokayev and Chairman Berdimuhamedov showcased the commitment of both countries to furthering their multifaceted strategic partnership for mutual benefit and development.
