Kazakhstan and WHO Join Forces to Achieve SDGs by 2030
Kazakhstan Signs Country Cooperation Strategy with WHO to Improve Health System
On April 7, Kazakh Minister of Health Akmaral Alnazarova, World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge, and Representative of WHO Country Office in Kazakhstan Skender Sola came together to sign the Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) until 2030. This collaboration aims to support Kazakhstan’s health policy and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ultimately improving the health of the population.
The CCS until 2030 outlines key priorities such as addressing disease risk factors through a multisectoral approach, enhancing universal health coverage by transforming primary health care, promoting equity in access to quality health services, ensuring reproductive health and the health of various population groups, building climate-resilient communities, and strengthening preparedness and response to health emergencies.
Minister Alnazarova expressed confidence that this strategic partnership with WHO will lead to significant advancements in public health and equal access to healthcare services. Despite improvements in health system infrastructure and digital health services, challenges persist regarding human resource allocation and financial sustainability. Therefore, the focus remains on strengthening primary health care to achieve universal health coverage.
WHO Regional Director Kluge commended Kazakhstan’s commitment to sustainable development and better health outcomes for its citizens. He highlighted the importance of close collaboration between the Ministry of Health, WHO, and development partners in implementing the CCS. The strategy aims to establish a robust and resilient health system, ensuring equitable health outcomes for all Kazakh citizens. Progress will be monitored through key performance indicators and regular policy reviews.
As Kazakhstan continues to address challenges such as cardiovascular diseases, unhealthy lifestyles, and infectious diseases, the partnership with WHO through the CCS until 2030 sets a clear path towards a healthier future for the population.
