Kazakhstan Discusses New Partnership Strategy with World Bank
Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy, Serik Zhumangarin, recently met with representatives from the World Bank to discuss the new Partnership Strategy for 2026-2030. The discussions also included the ratification of the Partnership Framework Agreement (PFA) and the expansion of joint projects, particularly in major infrastructure and environmental initiatives.
Zhumangarin expressed Kazakhstan’s strong appreciation for its strategic cooperation with the World Bank, emphasizing the key role the partnership plays in implementing structural reforms and fostering inclusive economic growth. Progress made under the current partnership strategy for 2020-2025 has paved the way for the development of a new strategy for the coming years.
With a projected GDP growth of over 5.6% in 2025, Kazakhstan is focused on economic diversification, attracting investments, infrastructure development, and modernizing key industries. Joint initiatives with the World Bank are expected to play a crucial role in achieving sustainable economic development.
Projects discussed during the meeting included the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1, the modernization of roads such as the Zhezkazgan-Karagandy project, productive innovation and science and technology development, the North Aral Sea project, and support for energy and utilities sector modernization.
Tatiana Proskuryakova, the World Bank’s Regional Director for Central Asia, highlighted the organization’s substantial project portfolio in Kazakhstan, reaching $2.5 billion. She expressed confidence in the potential for expanding cooperation and emphasized the importance of sustainable development, particularly focusing on environmental initiatives such as projects to restore the Aral Sea.
The World Bank remains a key international partner for Kazakhstan, providing expert and financial support for the modernization of the economy and the implementation of strategic initiatives. Both parties are committed to further enhancing their cooperation within the new strategic framework.
Zhumangarin expressed gratitude to the World Bank for its contribution to Kazakhstan’s development and expressed confidence that their cooperation will become even more productive in the years ahead. The completion of the ratification process for the Framework Partnership Agreement is expected to create new opportunities for the implementation of joint projects, supporting Kazakhstan in achieving its strategic goals.
