Kazakhstan Men’s Short Track Team Makes History with Gold Medal Win at 2025 Asian Winter Games
The Kazakhstan men’s short track team secured a historic victory at the 2025 Asian Winter Games in Harbin by clinching the gold medal in the men’s 5,000-meter relay event on Feb. 9. This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone for the team and the country in the world of winter sports.
The winning team consisted of talented athletes including Denis Nikisha, Abzal Azhgaliyev, Adil Galiakhmetov, Gleb Ivchenko, Mersaid Zhaksybayev, and Aibek Nasen, as reported by the National Olympic Committee’s press service. Their impressive performance and teamwork deserve praise for bringing home the prestigious gold medal.
In addition to this triumph, Kazakhstan’s freestyle acrobatics team, featuring Ayana Zholdas, Sherzod Khashirbayev, and Assylkhan Assan, secured the silver medal in the mixed team competition on Feb. 10. Furthermore, Olzhas Klimin added to the country’s medal tally by winning the bronze medal in the 10-kilometer freestyle cross-country skiing competition.
On the women’s side, Kazakhstan’s teams also excelled in the relays and team sprint events. The women’s 3,000-meter relay team, which included Yana Khan, Olga Tikhonova, Maka Yermek, Zeynep Kumarkhan, Alina Azhgaliyeva, and Madina Zhanbussinova, claimed the silver medal. Another women’s team from Kazakhstan secured the bronze medal in the team sprint competition, with Kristina Silayeva, Darya Vazhenina, and Nadezhda Morozova showcasing their skills.
Ayana Zholdas continued to shine individually by winning the bronze medal in the freestyle acrobatics final, further adding to Kazakhstan’s impressive performance at the Asian Winter Games.
Furthermore, athletes like Yevgeny Koshkin, representing Kazakhstan in speed skating, and Konstantin Bortsov, a talented skier, achieved silver medals in their respective events.
