Kazakhstan’s Tech Ecosystem Generating Billion-Dollar Startups at Global Pace
Kazakhstan has rapidly emerged as a tech hub, creating a dynamic ecosystem that is churning out billion-dollar startups at a pace comparable to leading global ecosystems in the United States (U.S.) and China. This was highlighted by Yoram Wijngaarde, the founder and CEO of Dealroom.co, during the Digital Almaty 2025 forum held recently.
According to the Kazakh Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry, Wijngaarde pointed out that Kazakhstan now accounts for 15-20% of all venture capital investment in Central Asia. While the U.S. and Europe still lead in the number of startups, Asian countries are showing high growth rates, with Kazakhstan not just catching up but surpassing the U.S. in the speed of creating startups valued at over $10 billion.
Wijngaarde specifically mentioned the success story of Kazakh company Kaspi.kz, which is valued at over $10 billion, as an example of the rapid growth within Kazakhstan’s young IT ecosystem.
