Kazakhstan Improves Transparency in 2024 Index

Kazakhstan Makes Strides in Fighting Corruption, Ranks 88th in Global Index

ASTANA – Kazakhstan has made significant progress in its efforts to combat corruption, as evidenced by its improved ranking in Transparency International’s 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI). The country climbed five spots to secure the 88th place among 180 countries, marking a historic high with a score of 40 points.

This achievement is a result of Kazakhstan’s comprehensive measures to tackle corruption within the public sector. The global average score on the CPI was 43, while in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region, which includes 19 countries, the average score was 35.

Kazakhstan stands out as the highest-ranked country in Central Asia and is the only nation in the region to have improved its ranking. It surpasses its neighbors, such as Uzbekistan (121st), the Kyrgyz Republic (146th), Russia (154th), and Tajikistan (164th) in the index.

Over the past few years, Kazakhstan has seen notable progress in its anti-corruption efforts, gaining 11 points since 2016 when its score was 29. The country now ranks higher than countries like India, Indonesia, Argentina, Serbia, Ukraine, Brazil, Thailand, Turkey, and Belarus in the CPI.

Transparency International calculates the CPI by aggregating data from nine organizations, which assess corruption levels within the public sector through expert and business evaluations. Each country receives a score from 0 to 100, with 0 indicating high levels of corruption and 100 representing a clean and transparent public sector.

Kazakhstan’s improved ranking in the 2024 CPI reflects the government’s commitment to combatting corruption and promoting accountability at all levels of society. It sets a positive example for the region and underscores the importance of continued efforts to uphold integrity and transparency in governance.
