Kazakhstan Authorities Begin Construction of New Houses in Flood-Affected Regions
The government of Kazakhstan has taken swift action to address the impact of recent floods in the Pavlodar, Karagandy, and Aktobe Regions. According to a report from the Prime Minister’s office on April 18, construction of new houses has commenced in these areas to provide relief to affected residents.
A commission was deployed to inspect 2,602 residential buildings in the affected regions, with 1,499 of them already assessed. The assessment revealed that 794 houses are in need of restoration, while 701 have been completely destroyed.
In an effort to support affected families, 197 households have received compensation for housing repairs totaling 218.6 million tenge (US$488,233). Additionally, 33 families have been provided with new houses and apartments to replace their destroyed homes.
Furthermore, a total of 5,803 families have received a one-time payment of 369,200 tenge (US$825), while 877 families have been compensated for material damage amounting to 380 million tenge (US$849,875). The government has also allocated 38.9 million tenge (US$87,000) for the loss of livestock due to the floods.
Thanks to the implementation of flood prevention measures, 18,651 individuals have been able to return to their homes safely. Since the onset of the flooding, a total of 117,694 people have been rescued and evacuated, including 43,931 children.
The construction of new houses and the provision of financial assistance demonstrate the government’s commitment to supporting the recovery and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-affected regions of Kazakhstan.
