Kazakhstan-Mongolia Trade Reaches $84 Million Before Tokayev’s Trip
Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Mongolia has reached $83.9 million in the first eight months of 2024, according to Kazinform. This news comes just ahead of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s upcoming state visit to Mongolia.
Aidar Amrebayev, the director of the Center for Political Studies at the Institute of Philosophy, Political Science, and Religious Studies, highlighted the shared foreign policy approach of both countries in dealing with major powers like China and Russia. He also noted that Kazakhstan and Mongolia are both undergoing political modernization and have similar economic ambitions, particularly in transitioning to manufacturing-based economies.
Plans are in place for the opening of a joint museum to support bilateral initiatives in education, science, information, archaeology, and the history of nomads, reflecting the strong cultural ties between the two nations. Amrebayev emphasized the historical and cultural connection between Kazakhstan and Mongolia, particularly through the legacy of Genghis Khan.
The two countries are also working on strengthening their connections with a new road route that will pass through Kazakhstan and Russia, providing better access to Mongolia. The Kazakh section of the route has already been built, with further renovations planned to improve transport links and reduce travel times, fostering economic and cultural exchanges.
Amrebayev highlighted the potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route as a promising avenue for Mongolia to diversify its transport corridors, potentially reaching the European Union via Kazakhstan. Expectations are high for President Tokayev’s visit to Mongolia, with hopes for diverse and fruitful initiatives to further enhance the relationship between the two countries.
