Kazakhstan Outlines Priorities as Chair of ECO During High-Level Committee Meeting
Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Bakayev has highlighted Kazakhstan’s priorities as the chair of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) during the first ECO High-Level Committee meeting on Feb. 3 in Tehran. The meeting, as reported by the ministry’s press service, focused on key areas such as transport and logistics connectivity, trade, technological interaction, institutional development of the ECO, food security, and sustainable growth.
Participants at the meeting also discussed the importance of strengthening the ECO’s institutional capacity and developing the ECO Vision 2035 strategy to address modern economic challenges. Structural reforms were identified as crucial for enhancing the efficiency of the organization.
In its role as ECO Chair in 2025, Kazakhstan is committed to promoting initiatives that will improve the organization’s effectiveness and deepen regional economic integration. The ECO, established in 1985, aims to foster economic, technical, and cultural cooperation among its member states, which include Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan. Kazakhstan has been a member of the ECO since 1992.
The meeting in Tehran set the stage for Kazakhstan’s leadership in driving forward the organization’s agenda and strategic priorities in the coming year.
