Kazakhstan to Build 57 New Water Reservoirs by 2030
The Kazakh Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has announced a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of water management facilities until 2030, with the goal of building 57 new water reservoirs across the country. This initiative aims to increase the capacity for water collection and irrigation to support agricultural production and the overall economy.
According to the ministry’s plan, the construction of these new reservoirs will be distributed across various regions of Kazakhstan. Four reservoirs will be built in the Aktobe Region, three in the Turkistan and Zhambyl Regions, and two in the West Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, and Karagandy Regions. Additionally, one reservoir each will be constructed in the Akmola, Almaty, Kyzylorda, and Abai Regions.
The new reservoirs are expected to have a combined capacity to collect up to 2.5 billion cubic meters of water, which will help increase the area of irrigated land by 250,000 hectares. In addition to these new constructions, the ministry also plans to reconstruct 15 existing reservoirs in the country to improve water supply to an additional 74,000 hectares of irrigated land.
Overall, these measures are aimed at ensuring a stable water supply for agricultural producers and other sectors of the economy in Kazakhstan. By accumulating water resources and creating better conditions for irrigation, the country hopes to enhance its agricultural productivity and water management capabilities in the coming years.
