
Kazakhstan Pursues Justice in Attempted Murder of Kazakh Journalist in Kyiv

Kazakh General Prosecutor’s Office Registers Criminal Case on Attempted Murder of Journalist Aidos Sadykov in Kyiv
ASTANA — The General Prosecutor’s Office of Kazakhstan has registered a criminal case regarding the attempted murder of Kazakh journalist Aidos Sadykov, following a directive from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The incident took place on June 18 in Kyiv.
According to a press statement from the General Prosecutor’s Office, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies swiftly identified the individuals responsible for the crime. As a response, Kazakhstan has sent an international investigative request to Ukraine, seeking case materials on the involvement of Zhakanbayev and Karatayev.
The attempted assassination occurred when an unknown person approached Aidos Sadykov and his wife while they were in a parked car on Yarmola Street in Kyiv. The assailant opened fire, injuring Sadykov before fleeing the scene. Sadykov is currently in critical condition in the hospital.
President Tokayev instructed Kazakhstan’s diplomatic and law enforcement agencies to cooperate with Ukrainian authorities in discovering the truth behind the attack. Altai Zhakanbayev voluntarily approached Kazakh authorities on June 21 and was subsequently detained under suspicion of committing the crime. Efforts are ongoing to locate Meiram Karatayev, with operational search activities being conducted.
