Kazakhstan Boosts Grain Transport by Rail, Resumes Grain Supplies to Iran and Azerbaijan
In the year 2024, Kazakhstan managed to transport a total of 10.6 million tons of grain via rail, with 8.1 million tons being exported to various destinations. This marks a significant accomplishment for the country’s agricultural sector, as it successfully resumed grain supplies to Iran and Azerbaijan.
According to reports from the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) national railway company, there was a 20% increase in grain transportation to Tajikistan, a 92% surge to the Kyrgyz Republic, and an 86% rise in shipments to Azerbaijan. Additionally, the loading of grain bound for Iran doubled during the same period.
The positive trend continued with the transportation of milled products, which saw a 2% increase in volume, reaching 3.2 million tons in 2024. Exports of milled products also grew by 3% to 2.3 million tons, with notable increases in shipments to Central Asian nations like Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and the Kyrgyz Republic. China emerged as a key importer, boosting its imports of Kazakh milled products by 34%.
In efforts to optimize the logistics of grain and milled product transportation, KTZ emphasized its commitment to monitoring all stages of delivery. Special attention is given to the transportation of socially significant goods such as grain and milled products, with the establishment of an operational grain headquarters to oversee and control transportation on a daily basis, ensuring continuity and timeliness.
Overall, Kazakhstan’s progress in grain transport and exports signals a positive trajectory for the country’s agricultural industry, paving the way for further collaboration and growth in the region.
