Kazakhstan Achieves Significant Success in Transport and Logistics Sector
ASTANA — Kazakhstan has seen remarkable progress in the transport and logistics sector during the first half of the year, with notable improvements in passenger traffic in aviation, advancements in rail transport, and developments in maritime infrastructure.
According to the Prime Minister’s press service, measures have been implemented to enhance the country’s transport network, improve service quality, and support economic growth.
Civil aviation in Kazakhstan has shown significant growth, with a 15% increase in passenger traffic compared to last year, totaling 6.8 million people. Domestic airports served 11.3 million passengers, a 21.5% increase from the previous year. The domestic airline fleet was expanded by five aircraft this year, with airlines serving 132 international destinations and 760 flights per week in 33 countries, including new destinations like China, Egypt, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates.
In terms of railway transport, the volume of non-commodity export cargo transported by rail increased to 10 million tons, with significant growth in the transportation of various goods. The Kazakh Transport Ministry plans to deliver 140 new passenger cars this year and is also carrying out major infrastructure projects and repair works on the country’s railway network.
Additionally, Kazakhstan is focusing on developing its maritime infrastructure by creating a maritime transport and logistics cluster based on the seaports of Aktau and Kuryk. The plan includes increasing container capacity, developing cargo handling terminals, and reducing administrative barriers to enhance international transportation logistics.
The country has also witnessed new opportunities for export-import transportation, including the ratification of an intergovernmental agreement with China on international road transport. Test transit road transportation from China to Europe through Kazakhstan and the Caspian Sea has been organized for the first time, showcasing the country’s commitment to improving its transportation systems.
