Kazakhstan: The Ideal Destination for Neo Nomads, According to Deputy Minister

Kazakhstan Expands Opportunities for Digital Nomads with Neo Nomad Visa

ASTANA – Kazakhstan is embracing the trend of digital nomadism by introducing the Neo Nomad Visa in November. In an exclusive interview with The Astana Times, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports Yerzhan Yerkinbayev discussed the motivation behind this new visa, highlighting Kazakhstan’s potential to become a preferred destination for remote professionals.

“Kazakhstan has visa-free access for over 80 countries, allowing visitors to stay for up to one month, and in some cases, up to three months,” explained Deputy Minister Yerkinbayev.

The Neo Nomad Visa is designed for professionals and digital entrepreneurs who wish to reside in Kazakhstan while working remotely for foreign clients. It is a multiple-entry visa valid for up to one year, with the option to extend for another year. Family members can also apply for visas under this scheme, although work and religious activities are restricted.

Applicants must meet several criteria, including a clean criminal record, medical insurance, and a verified monthly income of at least $3,000. The visa processing time is approximately five days.

The idea for the Neo Nomad Visa emerged from the increasing interest of foreign nationals in residing longer in Kazakhstan, which was limited by existing visa regulations. Yerkinbayev consulted with current expatriates in the country, who expressed the desire for a longer-term visa option.

Visits to cities like Almaty and Aktau reinforced the need for a long-stay visa option. Yerkinbayev met with creative professionals and foreigners who praised the cities for their comfort, affordability, and convenient locations.

Kazakhstan’s vibrant culture, affordable living costs, and breathtaking natural landscapes make it an attractive destination for remote professionals. Yerkinbayev emphasized that Kazakhstan offers a unique blend of opportunities that set it apart from other countries.

In addition to the Neo Nomad Visa, Kazakhstan also provides digital nomad and permanent residence visas for skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, and remote workers interested in long-term opportunities for career growth or business development.

The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry is spearheading the digital nomad visa, focusing on IT and AI professionals seeking to work or establish businesses in Kazakhstan.

With its progressive visa policies and diverse offerings, Kazakhstan is positioning itself as an ideal destination for digital nomads seeking a unique blend of work, leisure, and cultural experiences.
