Kazakhstan to Boost Checkpoint Capacity with Turkmenistan by 12 Times.

Kazakhstan to Modernize Border Checkpoints with Turkmenistan

Kazakhstan has restricted the passage of vehicles on the border with Turkmenistan at the Temir-Baba checkpoint as the country begins modernizing its border crossings. The project aims to increase capacity by 8 to 12 times by the end of 2024.

Despite the restrictions, the State Revenue Department of the Mangystau region reported that traffic is not completely blocked. The border crossing time is expected to be reduced to a record 25 minutes with the modernization.

The updated checkpoints will feature the latest equipment for recognizing individuals, baggage control, and the inspection of goods and vehicles. Automated systems for data exchange and the non-stop movement of vehicles will also be introduced.

The project will also provide new storage facilities, transport platforms, and special quarantine parking lots near Temir Baba itself. Car traffic will be divided to prevent crossing incidents.

The modernization is expected to pave the way for faster and smoother border crossings between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
