ASTANA—The Kazakh capital is gearing up to host the prestigious IBO-2024 International Biology Olympiad for the first time from July 7 to 14. The IBO is recognized as one of the world’s top seven subject competitions, and Kazakh students have been active participants for 28 years. Over this time, they have garnered more than 70 awards, including two gold, 20 silver, and 54 bronze medals. This year, four students will proudly represent Kazakhstan at the event, as reported by the Prime Minister’s press service.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Tamara Duissenova, highlighted the significance of this international event and instructed all relevant agencies during a meeting held on June 24. According to the Deputy Minister of Education, Yedil Ospan, the IBO will see the participation of 305 students and 275 leaders from 81 countries this year. Sponsorship funds have been utilized to procure necessary equipment and tools for both theoretical and practical tours, with over 80 volunteers providing support throughout the event.

In addition to the academic competition, the IBO participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Kazakh culture by enjoying various cultural programs, exploring the sights of Astana and the Akmola Region, and delving into the history and national art of Kazakhstan.

This year’s IBO promises to be a memorable and enriching experience for all involved, as Astana welcomes aspiring biologists from around the globe to showcase their talents and passion for the field of biology.
