Kazakhstan to Triple Container Throughput at Aktau and Kuryk Seaports by 2028
ASTANA – The Transport Ministry of Kazakhstan has announced plans to triple container throughput at the Aktau and Kuryk seaports by 2028. This initiative is part of the comprehensive plan for the development of maritime infrastructure in the country.
The aim of the plan, which covers the period from 2024 to 2028, is to significantly increase the capacity of the Aktau and Kuryk ports. The creation of a large maritime transport and logistics cluster will be based on these ports, with a focus on enhancing container capacity, developing cargo transshipment terminals, and improving logistics for international transport. The plan also aims to reduce administrative barriers to facilitate smoother operations at the ports.
Construction work is set to begin this year, with dredging of the waters at the Kuryk port and the construction of a container hub at the Aktau port. These projects are expected to boost the efficiency and effectiveness of the ports, especially with regards to the Trans-Caspian International Transit Route (TITR) expansion.
Private investments will play a crucial role in funding most of the projects outlined in the comprehensive plan. This strategy aims to leverage private sector expertise and resources to drive growth and development in the maritime sector in Kazakhstan.
