Kazakhstan to Open First External Sea Terminal in Poti, Georgia
Kazakhstan is set to open its first external sea terminal in Poti, Georgia in April, as reported by Kazinform citing Jibek Joly TV Channel. The $30 million project, initiated by a domestic investor two years ago, will have an annual capacity of 120,000 containers.
Situated in the Poti port, which boasts over 20 berthing cranes and 17 kilometers of railway tracks, the terminal will enhance Kazakhstan’s position as Central Asia’s primary transit hub. The transport corridor will stretch from Kazakhstan through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and the Black Sea, facilitating the movement of global cargo. Similarly, goods will be transported through Kazakhstan to Central Asian countries in the opposite direction.
Furthermore, plans are in place to construct a second multimodal terminal in Azerbaijan later this year, to further bolster the connectivity and efficiency of cargo transportation in the region. This development marks a significant step forward in establishing Kazakhstan as a key player in the global transport and logistics network.
